How to host an event at HSMC. . .

Historic St. Mary's City has a variety of unique and beautiful venues that can be leased for special events. The museum's buildings and grounds provide a perfect setting and distinctive ambiance for weddings, corporate events, holiday parties, and reunions. Visits to our exhibits are a terrific appetizer and group tours are available.

HSMC's exclusive caterer, Expressions of St. Mary's, offers high quality food and service, utilizing local, fresh produce, fish and meats all at affordable prices. Our party tent can be leased and sized from 40 x 40' to 40 x 120' to accommodate any group. Your HSMC contact M. Padukiewicz will provide information about furnishings, linens, flowers, music--everything needed to ensure that you and your guests have the time of their lives.

Make your next family or corporate gathering a historic occasion at HSMC.

Options for events include:

  • The  Inn at Brome Howard (formerly the Brome Howard Inn). The 19th-century inn is set on spacious grounds along the St. Mary's River. Plan a small celebration in the restored plantation house or formal garden. Lease our party tent on the site for a larger gathering.

  • The reconstructed State House of 1676. This stately structure has baronial fireplaces and wonderful leaded glass windows. A broad sweep of lawn overlooks the St. Mary's River and the sunset. In December, the State House is decorated for Madrigal Evenings and provides a one-of-a-kind setting for office Christmas parties.

  • The Margaret Brent Garden & Gazebo. This memorial to one of early America's most important women is a favorite site for weddings. The Victorian-style gazebo and garden are adjacent to the 17th-century Town Center and overlook the river and the setting sun.

  • The Maryland Dove dock. The Maryland Dove dock and waterfront areas are available for receptions. The square-rigged Maryland Dove is docked in the St. Mary's River, a premier spot for enjoying an end of the day repast. Physical access to the ship is restricted by Coast Guard regulations.

  • Farthing's Pub Room. The pub room in Farthing's Ordinary provides a period venue for receptions, meetings, or dining for small parties.

  • Farthing's Arbor is an outdoor area with picnic tables and benches. It is a perfect spot for group picnics and informal receptions.

Normal museum hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and rental events can begin once the Museum is closed to the public. Setup for an event may begin after 4 p.m. with prior approval.
