Maryland Educators Appreciation Month 

Historic St. Mary’s City  would like to thank educators for their hard work throughout the year by extending free admission to Maryland public and private school educators and staff for the month of July.  Free admission is for one adult with a valid Maryland school ID.

First Responders Month

Calling all police, fire, EMTs and ambulance personnel! Visit Historic St. Mary’s City and enjoy a special thank you for all you do for our community.  Active first responders with valid id will be admitted free.  In addition, accompanying family members receive $1 off admission.

August 7

The Maryland Dove will be off exhibit. She will be serving as committee boat for the Governor's Cup Yacht Race at the finish line off Church Point in the St. Mary's River.

Seniors Month    

In celebration of the National Grandparents Day, Historic St. Mary’s City is offering senior citizens (60 and up) half price admission throughout the month of September.

Woodland Indian Discovery Day

Explore and celebrate the lifeways of Maryland's first people. Try dancing, archery, pottery, bead-making, tool-making and try on deerskin clothes. Discover how the Yaocomaco lived comfortably using materials found in their environment. Admission. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The Maryland Dove will be away and not available for touring. She will be on exhibit at Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels and open to the public on Saturday and Sunday.

RiverFest

Discover your maritime heritage, the beautiful St. Mary’s River, and 101 many ways to protect and play in the Tidewater landscape. Free.10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The Maryland Dove will be away and not available for touring. She will be attending the Blessing of the Fleet at the St. Clement's Island Museum.


October 2

John R. Petruccelli 5K Run/Walk

The 12th annual run/walk benefits SafeRide and college scholarships. The run, in honor of John Petruccelli, an SMCM student killed by a drunk driver as he was riding his bike, is open to all and consists of a 3.1 mile mostly paved course through scenic St. Mary’s City. The fun walk is 1.5 miles on level ground on the paved paths through HSMC.    The Chesapeake Bay Running Club is the official timekeeper. Prices are FREE for children under 12 years of age, $10 for SMCM students and youth ages 12-18, $20 for alumni, parents, faculty/staff, friends, and community, $25 for all on race day.  Logo t-shirts available in adult sizes S, M, L, XL, and XXL for $5 while supplies last.

Pre-registrations accepted until September 28th. Race begins at 8 a.m. Race-day registration and packet pick-up for pre-registrants begins at 7:15 a.m. at the Rectory, across the street from the State House at HSMC.

Tom Lewis in Concert

Songs and stories of the sea in the Visitor Center auditorium at 8 p.m. Lewis, a retired submariner, offers traditional shanties and classic nautical poetry, set to his own, and others', melodies. Learn more on Tom's website. Snacks and light refreshments available for sale. $15 admission. Limited seating. Advance ticket sales (at the Visitor Center, or call 240-895-4990, 800-SMC-1634, via e-mail) or at the door, subject to availability.

Militia Muster

In early Maryland, all able-bodied men were prepared to defend the colony. Occasional musters allowed them to practice their military skills (and socialize with other militia families). Admission. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Grave Matters in St. Mary’s City

Experience an aspect of 17th-century colonial life often overlooked in living history:  what happens after a person dies. Walk St. Mary’s City historical paths by candlelight as Maryland colonists provide a glimpse into 17th -century life and death in an entertaining, illuminating, and possibly haunting, event.Parental guidance is suggested.  Some material may not be suitable for young children. 

Tours offered every 15 min. from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  $20 for age2 12 and up and $15 for ages 6-12.  Children 5 years and under visit free.  $15 for Friends of Historic St. Mary’s City and St. Mary’s College of Maryland students with an ID.  Advance ticket purchase is required.  Sales begin on September 1.

Military Appreciation Month

In recognition of Veteran’s Day, Historic St. Mary’s City celebrates those who have served our country.  All active and retired military are admitted free with a valid id.  In addition, accompanying family members receive $1 off admission.

Community Concert & Open House

Kick off your holiday season in the State House with harmonies by St. Maries Musica and inspiring decorations by the Mistress Brent Garden Club.

No charge. Doors open at 6, concert begins at 7.
